The 2019 EDITION OF THE KANO OPEN NATIONAL SCRABBLE COMPETITION will hold in the ancient city of KANO from the 23rd to 24th March 2019, this according to information made available to  on Tuesday.

The 16th edition will feature categories such as THE MASTERS (1400 POINTS RATING), OPEN  CATEGORY (1399 POINTS RATING & BELOW) and the VETERAN category.

The 1.2million naira prize money, NIGERIA SCRABBLE FEDERATION NSF rated tournament   will attract players from across the federation with CYRIL UMEBIYE looking to defend the title he won in the 2018 EDITION.

According to the organisers the 16th edition will   feature 15 games over the course of  two  days  and  the  first  position  players will take home 150,000naira in the MASTERS, 100,000 naira in the OPEN while the first prize for the VETERAN category will take home 70,000 naira all the prizes goes with a trophy.

Second placed players will take home 100,000 naira, 70,000naira   and 50,000 naira in the masters, open and veteran categories respectively.

While  third  placed  players will get 60,000 naira, 50,000 naira and 40,000 naira in the three categories respectively.

Consolation prizes include 10,000 naira for the best female played outside the classification while 5,000 naira each goes to the 2nd and 3rd placed female outside the classification.

The KANO  OPEN  NATIONAL  SCRABBLE  COMPETITION started in 1994  with SEGUN DUROJAYE winning the most titles so far with   4 trophies.

The 2019     edition  offers  free  accommodation  for players with registration fees for the  MASTERS (N5000 naira), OPEN ( 4,000 naira) and the VETERANS (N3000 naira) respectively.

However  female  players  will  enjoy FREE registration.
