The 2019 AFRICAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP  CAA  AFRICAN  U18  & U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS  “Abidjan 2019” began on a colourful note on Tuesday at the STADE FELIX HOUPHOUET BOIGNY   in ABIDJAN, COTE I’VOIRE with TEAM  NIGERIA parading a contingent of 89 athletes and officials, the largest in the Championships.

MOROCCO won the first gold medal in the women’s 1500m race while KENYA won gold in the boys category.

TEAM NIGERIA opened her medals’ account in the  boys  high  jump  event  with BEST ERHIRE winning Nigeria’s first gold medal  with a Personal best of 2.08metres.

An elated ATHLETICS FEDERATION OF NIGERIA AFN, Technical Director, SUNDAY ADELEYE, President of AFN  SHEHU GUSAU, former President SOLOMON OGBA and former Technical Director  COMMODORE NESIAMA were on ground to congratulate  gold medallist BEST ERHIRE.

In   other  events  Nigeria’s  SHADRACK AKPEKI won his heat in the men 400m with a time of 47.49s  while teammate NSIKAK FRANCIS came second in the second heat.

VICTOR AKHALU also  won  his  400m heat  with a time of 47.96s  as  another Nigerian FATOLA ADEDOYIN came fourth in his heat.

FAVOUR OFILI, Nigeria’s only representative in the women 400m won her heat 2 with a season best of 53.75s.

The CAA U18 AND U20 CHAMPIONSHIP will run through the 16th of April to 20 April 2019.
